Welcome to Early Years
Meet our team
In a morning, we meet in the side playground. At 8:45 the side doors will open and you are welcomed into the unit.
The children need to hang up their coats, put their snacks on the trolley and put their bags in their drawers. They then need to make their way into their own classroom and sit on the carpet for register and the morning task.
At 9am we have our phonics session followed by our morning snack time. Your child can bring in a small healthy snack to enjoy – please no nuts, crisps or sweets.
After playtime we will have a maths focus and independent learning up until lunch.
At 12pm we have our lunch break. Your child will have their lunch in the bottom hall.
During the afternoon session, we have our topic inputs, PSED, Guided reading and PE. Your child will be able to have a free piece of fruit during the afternoon snack time.
School finishes at 3:05. Please wait at the bottom of the Early Years steps and your child will be sent out to you when a member of staff has called their name.
Please inform us in a morning if your child will be attending ‘Fun Club’ or if someone else is collecting your child.
Parent and teacher meetings will be held in the Autumn and Spring terms. We will be able to discuss how your child has settled in, the progress they are making and how you can further help your child at home. If at any point you need to speak to your child’s teacher, please make an appointment with the team if it will take longer than a quick question before or after school. You can also use their partnership books to note down any questions – they will be checked every Friday by your child’s class teacher so any queries can be picked up then.
Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside. The Curriculum is designed to be really flexible so that staff can follow your child’s unique needs and interests.
On Monday we do Real PE in an afternoon and on Friday we focus on fine and gross motor control as well as the key areas of movement – agility, balance and coordination.
Your child will have a phonics session every day where they will be learning new sounds and skills such as blending and segmenting. Phonics is taught as a quick carpet time through songs, activities and games. Please help your child with their phonic development by practicing the sounds we have learnt at home and please always ensure the correct letter formation.
After Christmas your child will be given an individual SMIRF target. Their SMIRF (space mission instant recall fact) target is maths based and will be checked in school, every other week. The target should be learnt to a fast recall level. Each target must be successfully checked three times, before a new one is given.
Girls: Blue summer dresses or navy skirt/ dress/ trousers, white polo shirt, St. Peter’s school jumper or cardigan and dark coloured shoes.
Boys: Grey trousers/shorts, white polo shirt, St. Peter’s school jumper and dark coloured shoes.

Your child should come with a coat every day as they will be outside come rain or shine.

In school we use our 5 R’s to help us to be successful, not just in school, but in life. Click on the picture to see how we develop these important skills.
We are always trying to improve and we have a plan of how we are going to achieve this. How can you help us get better?
