School Councillors – Challenge set by Miss Fishburn (April 2020)!
Here are the school council members for this academic year!
Each child was elected by their class to represent the views of all pupils and to think of different ways in which we can improve our school. We meet regularly with Miss Fishburn to discuss issues that are important and to support our school’s subject leaders. During our first meeting, we elected a Chairperson, a Deputy Chairperson, a Secretary and a Treasurer. These roles help use to organise the meetings and make “changes”.
This year we have been focused on “How to look after our planet”. In the autumn term, we have worked together and decided that each class should have a light monitor. This was someone who would turn off the lights in the classrooms when the room was not in use such as at playtime and lunchtime. We are trying to save energy by doing this.
We have also completed an audit of the types of rubbish that is collected from packed lunches at the end of lunch. We were shocked by how much plastic there was and that made us think about what could be recycled and what action school councillors could do about it.
So we have decided that we are going to lead a collective worship about encouraging people to take their rubbish home – we might not provide a bin in the top hall at lunchtime to encourage people to recycle rubbish. We are looking forward to taking on this role!
